Respite & Support for Families of Children & Young adults with a Disability in the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie Area

Newcastle Temporary Care Ltd is a community based, not-for-profit respite care service for children and young adults with a disability and their carers and families, who live in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie local government areas.

It was established in 1978 and has grown to provide a large range of flexible programs and support to local families of children and young adults aged 0-55 years with a disability and their families.

Newcastle temporary Care understands the challenges of raising a child with a disability and aims to support all members of the family through:

  • opportunities for parents and carers of the person with a disability to get together with others experiencing a similar situation
  • providing a broad range of community experiences for the person with the disability
  • providing "time out" for carers and siblings

The National Disability Insurance Scheme -- DisabilityCare Australia.

If you have a disability and live in the Newcastle Local Government Area you will be asked to visit a DisabilityCare Australia (DCA) planner based in Charlestown. Each person will have a person centred plan and budget drawn up by the planner based on what is “reasonable and necessary” to meet your goals for the future.

Newcastle Temporary Care offers person centred services and will give you support and advice during this time. Please view our NDIS Fact Sheet.
